First Peoples Tourism Plan

We’re empowering First Peoples community to develop a self-determined, First Peoples-led tourism strategy for Victoria.

Overview

First Peoples-led experiences is one of the key pillars under the Experience Victoria 2033 strategic plan.

As part of the pillar’s focus, and a commitment in the Visitor Economy Recovery and Reform Plan, we’re developing a First Peoples Tourism plan.

The primary objectives include:

  • Coordinating and advancing First Peoples tourism.
  • Leveraging and enhancing their participation for economic development.
  • Empowering First Peoples within the tourism industry.

Refreshing the narrative around First Peoples tourism is essential for economic empowerment and self-determination. We want to highlight the rich culture, history and contemporary experiences of First Peoples in Victoria.

We’ll be connecting with First Peoples communities, businesses, Traditional Owners and Registered Aboriginal Parties during the engagement process.  We’ll also be engaging with the wider tourism sector during this time.

This includes establishing a shared vision, addressing challenges and setting long-term industry priorities.

We have engaged Karabena Consulting to run in person regional roadshows, as well as virtual workshops to facilitate these conversations.

Face-to-face consultation dates

We’ll be running a series of consultation workshops over the next few months. Please register for your preferred session. Some sessions will be for the First Peoples community only.
