Plans underway to serve up world-first tourism destination in the Cape Otway area

11 December 2024

Planning work has started on a world-first project that will bring together sports, education, tourism and environmental facilities on a 500-acre Cape Otway site.

The CORA (Cape Otway Road Australia) project will combine elite sports facilities, cutting-edge sports science and holistic wellness services luxury accommodation across a 128-room luxury hotel, 28 Lakeside lodges and organic, paddock-to-plate culinary experiences.

When it’s built, the facility will help drive visitation to the Surf Coast region and create jobs for the region’s growing tourist economy.

CORA will also promote the history and cultural significance of the Surf Coast region highlighting the story of the region’s original inhabitants, the Wadawurrung People. It will also dedicate 265 acres of the site to environmental conservation efforts.

The project has been supported through an Enabling Tourism Fund 2024 grant to help develop a detailed business plan for the wetland restoration works and architectural design elements of the CORA Masterplan.

The Enabling Tourism Fund 2024 is investing up to $8 million to support regional and rural Victorian tourism infrastructure projects to reach investment-ready status.

It’s part of the Victorian Government's $170 million investment to create more jobs, support our important tourism businesses and attract more visitors to experience the fabulous natural and other experiences on offer across regional Victoria.
