Checkered flag waves on record-breaking Grand Prix

Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix breaks attendance record for fourth consecutive year

21 March 2025

For the fourth year in a row, the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix has set a new attendance record.

The total estimated attendance for 2025 Grand Prix weekend – which wrapped up on Sunday with British McLaren driver Lando Norris winning the trophy – was 465,498, beating the previous record attendance figure set at the 2024 event by 13,443.

An estimated crowd of 131,547 braved the rain on Sunday to watch the final day of action live and in person at the Albert Park Circuit.

In addition to the record-breaking trackside attendance, this year’s Grand Prix was bigger than ever thanks to the new F1 Melbourne Fan Festival at Melbourne Park Oval.

The free, family friendly event ran from Wednesday, 12 March before wrapping up after the main race on Sunday, 16 March, ensuring that fans who missed out to tickets to the race could still enjoy the excitement and atmosphere of the race.

All the activity around the Grand Prix helped accelerate business for Melbourne’s world-famous cafes, restaurants, bars and hotels, with the city’s hotel rooms 92 per cent and 94 per cent booked out for the Grand Prix’s Friday and Saturday nights, respectively.

Secured in Melbourne until 2037, the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix is a significant economic driver for Victoria and is one of the largest international sporting events in the southern hemisphere.

It is a major driver in Victoria’s enviable calendar of major events generating more than $3.3 billion in economic value each year.
