Toast a weekend of wine, food and frivolity in Rutherglen

Rutherglen

Head to Rutherglen in Victoria’s North East in October for the annual Young Bloods and Bloody Legends Weekend which rejoices in the 150-year history and tradition of the Rutherglen wine region.

Stimulating wine events are held over 27 and 28 October which include a Young Bloods Rhone Varietals Masterclass, a lavish Rutherglen regional picnic and the legendary Rutherglen Legends Dinner. The event also includes the Sunday producer's picnic and market that celebrates the regions fabulous food and wine offerings and includes the annual Rutherglen's waiters race.

This lively event is hosted by The Young Bloods of Rutherglen, a group of young and enthusiastic winemakers and marketers who are passionately working in their family wineries, many the fifth and sixth generations to do so. Young Bloods include Nicholas Brown (All Saints Estate and St Leonards Vineyard), Susie Campbell (Campbells Winery), Stephen Chambers (Chambers Rosewood Winery), Jennifer Pfeiffer (Pfeiffers Winery), Christobelle Anderson (Anderson Wines), and Damien Cofield (Cofield Winery). They will be joined by other “Young Guns”, each representing one of the 21 winemakers from Rutherglen wineries.

Located in one of the oldest wine-growing areas in Australia, Rutherglen is renowned for its unique muscats, tokays and rich red wines. It also produces flavoursome whites and lighter reds. Once a major gold mining town, Rutherglen's history is reflected in the historic buildings now housing antique and bric-a-brac shops, tea rooms and restaurants.

Rutherglen has a great range of accommodation options, including Holroyd Bed and Breakfast, a 1920s historic house which provides superb accommodation in a garden setting.  For a full range of accommodation options contact the Rutherglen Wine Experience and Visitor Information Centre on (02) 6032 9166 or 1800 622 871 or visit www.rutherglenvic.com
