New map makes wine lovers lords of the vine

Award-winning wine writer Max Allen and cartographer Martin von Wyss have pooled their talents to produce The Wine Map of Victoria by Max Allen, a comprehensive overview of Victoria’s wine regions, wineries and vineyards.
The full-colour, finely-detailed, double-sided map costs $14.95 and features an up-to-date listing of Victoria’s 800-plus cellar doors, wineries and vineyards, evocative descriptions of the state’s wine regions and subregions, and informative maps of Victoria’s topography, climate, and most widely-planted grape varieties.
Using Victoria's varied terrain as the background, the map gives insight into the regional differences of the vineyards. The locations of all the wine sites were collected over five years by a team which used advanced mapping equipment at the sites.
“The Wine Map of Victoria by Max Allen can sit in a frame on the wall or in the glove box of your car,” Max Allen said.
Martin von Wyss added: “Putting the wine-related sites over a map of Victoria’s varied terrain really gives insight into the regional differences among the vineyards, differences that are highlighted in Max’s text.”
Copies of The Wine Map of Victoria by Max Allen are available at cellar doors, selected bookshops, wine shops, and Visitor Information Centre’s in Beechworth and Sunbury. The map can also be ordered online from www.australianwinemaps.com and www.winesofvictoria.com.au
