Escape to a heritage-listed oasis on Melbourne’s fringe

Those seeking a truly unique getaway in Victoria need look no further than 45 minutes west of Melbourne in Bacchus Marsh where the Boyd Baker House resides. This 35 acre heritage-listed property, designed in 1964–66 by one of Melbourne's great architects, the late Robin Boyd, has been transformed into a lavish accommodation which has been ‘dressed to impress’.
Owner Peter Mitrakas purchased the house in May this year and has spent over $500,000 furnishing the house with key modernist pieces by the likes of Eames and Hans Wegner, as well as Aboriginal and modern Australian artworks.
Boyd Baker House effortlessly blends into the natural bush landscape surrounding it. It has three double bedrooms, two single bedrooms, extensive interior and exterior living spaces, a small but serviceable kitchen and four bathrooms of varying sizes. Up to 11 people can share the house at a cost $3,000 per week or $1,800 for three days.
Nearby, but not visible from the main house, is a smaller house that is prefect for couples wanting a quick city break - the Boyd Dower House. It has two double bedrooms and is also decked out with modernist furniture such as Featherstone chairs and a Noguchi coffee table.
Boyd Dower House can be rented for $1,500 per week or $1,000 for three days.
Another Robin Boyd property is being developed in Mt Eliza, the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula, with plans to open by the end of the year.
