Get into ART!

Get into ART this month when 37 public galleries across the state unite to offer Victorians free fun, adventure and inspiration during the second annual Get into Art! Open day, on Sunday 28 October.

From Melbourne to Mildura and Wangaratta to Horsham, galleries will provide free entry and a diverse range of special programs on what promises to be a day to remember.

Victoria has the oldest and richest network of public galleries in Australia. Get into Art! is a unique program that offers all Victorians, interstate and international visitors the chance to experience the state’s treasures, diverse collections, quality exhibitions and world-class facilities.

Some preliminary highlights of Get into Art! include: a stencil art workshop at Gippsland Art Gallery; a free guided art bus tour of East Gippsland; a guided tour of Melbourne Bohemia: Inside Melbourne’s Artists’ Studioswith guest curator and author Alex Taylor at the City Museum at Old Treasury; free admission to the special exhibition Gordon Bennettat the Ian Potter Centre: National Gallery of Victoria, Australia; a jewellery making workshop with award-winning designer Marcos Davidson at Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery; a digital music workshop with Fakerdrummer, Paul Berryman, at Latrobe Regional Art Gallery; Aboriginal art appraisals at Maroondah Art Gallery; a guided tour of Sigmund Freuds Collection, an Archaeology of the Mind at Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA); and the opportunity to create football banners, enter a handballing competition and meet a notable AFL player at Monash Gallery of Art.
