Slow Guide to Melbourne
Released this month, the Slow Guide to Melbourne is a new and inspirational lifestyle guide for people who want to slow down and live it up. In a world obsessed with what’s “new”, the Slow Guide aims to help readers celebrate all that’s local, natural, traditional, sensory and gratifying about life in the city.
The book is divided into three sections – Character, Be and Do. The first section, Character, explores the natural features that define Melbourne and its people, from the beautiful parks and gardens to suggestions on where to go at certain times of the day when you want to feel a certain way – eg the Shrine of Remembrance at 5pm to hear the Last Post.
The second section, Be, covers activities that affect the senses - See, Hear, Smell, Taste and Touch. The Taste chapter focuses on slow food and lists cafes, restaurants, farmers' markets and fresh produce.
The third section, Do, covers activities that reconnect you to the concept of “slow”, including spas, yoga, walks, tram rides, swimming spots, and shopping with a heart. There’s also a slow section for kids, and lots of inspirational tips, activities and affirmations that will help you live more and fret less.
The Slow Guide is published by Affirm Press, a new Melbourne-based company dedicated to creating books that have a positive impact on the community.
