Savour the flavours of Mornington Peninsula at Vines of Red Hill
The bountiful Mornington Peninsula is renowned for its fabulous fresh produce and award-winning wines. Sample the very best it has to offer in the beautiful surrounds of Vines of Red Hill, a Mediterranean inspired winery restaurant on the hinterland.
Only an hour’s drive from Melbourne, the estate comprises a restaurant, cellar door, and a working vineyard. It also boasts views out across the vines and the estate’s lavish gardens.
The 10 year-old vineyard consists of 6.5 acres of vines, growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and the rare Gewürztraminer variety. The wines are made under the guidance of Robin Brockett from Scotchman’s Hill on the Bellarine Peninsula and are available exclusively through the cellar door and restaurant.
A decade ago ‘The Vines’, as it is affectionately known, was established by prominent local solicitor Phillip Fox. Since then the restaurant and gardens have consistently been recognised as some of the region's best.
Earlier this year James Redfern, one of Victoria’s most innovative and creative chefs, took over the business and is now steering the dinning experience into that of contemporary provincial cuisine.
James was previously head chef at Montalto Vineyard and Olive Grove, where his innovative cuisine heralded widespread acclaim: ‘Redfern’s style is well suited to the informal tone of the dining area, and with its reputation, the restaurant attracts professional staff. The result is one of Victoria’s best vineyard restaurants,” Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide 2004 and 2005.
Vines of Red Hill is open Thursday to Monday for lunch, and dinner from Thursday - Sunday and extended hours in summer (from Boxing Day onwards).
