Gippsland in Party Mode

Inspired by Gippsland

It’s all happening in Gippsland in March, when the region welcomes the harvest home, for a two-week Friday 2 –Sunday 18 March 2007 celebration of Gippsland’s diverse food and wine experiences.

Inspired by Gippsland  kicks off on Friday 2nd March with a Degustation Celebration in Leongatha, South Gippsland and finishes on Sunday 18th March with ‘Feast on East’ at Nicholson River Winery, near Bairnsdale.  In between, there’s a sumptuous banquet of food and wine events, inspired by the season’s bounty and the surf, sun, soil, spirit and natural beauty of Gippsland.

Find out about all things ‘swine’ at the ‘Celebration of Superb Swine’ (3-4 March) at Piglets, Neerim South.  Feast on Croatian style food cooked in a wood-fired oven and learn some traditional dance at ‘ A Taste of Croatia’, Piedmont Winery (4 March).  ‘Luccini at Parnassus’ promises an evening of opera, operetta and Broadway music, accompanied by a 3-course dinner at Drouin East (Sun 11 March).

Famous for its award winning cheese, Warragul will host the ‘Harvest of Gippsland’ (11 March) with up to 100 quality food and wine exhibitors showcasing the fruits of their labour.   Gippsland produce will star in the dishes cooked by Gabriel Gate, live on stage.  He will also host the final of the "Signature Dish" Chef competition, and there will be jazz music and free children’s entertainment.

A unique dining experience will be the Long Lunch on Historical Noojee Trestle Bridge in West Gippsland,
where Slow food in a spectacular setting (Friday 16 March) will be served by Noojee’s Outpost Restaurant.  Fresh and distinct flavours of Baw Baw Country will feature on a menu created by local chefs, matched to regional wines.

A Palate of Passions’ (2-18 March) includes Baw Baw Country’s finest food and wine, as well as open gardens, art exhibitions, art markets, performances in the vines, music and entertainment, wine and cheese tastings, gourmet meals, craft and produce markets.  Over in East Gippsland the locals will be celebrating with ‘Feast on East’ - food, art exhibitions, art auction, music, food, wine and performing arts. East Gippsland will be holding own Pranzo Lungo Sale’s Longest Lunch at bis cucina on Friday 16th March.
