Local designers showcased in Castlemaine’s new fashion retail hub

Castlemaine

The ground floor of the iconic Midland Hotel in Castlemaine has been transformed into a new fashion retail hub showcasing the work of local independent designers.

Taking its inspiration from the 5- star international hotels that have long devoted in-house space to upmarket boutiques, Castlemaine Fashion Central brings together stylish and individual fashion retailers, as well as a café and exhibition space.

Retail outlets include:

Absinthe Design
Absinthe is a true boutique designer and that eschews the ethos of the mass produced in favour of a more individual sensibility.  Owner Melissa Langford is also the in-house designer, creating a new collection for every season with a emphasis on using vintage fabrics and trims, and adding additional variety between seasons by creating new pieces onsite.

Tyger Lilly
Tyger Lilly specialises in individually designed and hand made fashionable clothing,  jewellery, accessories, gifts and knitted garments. Many items on display have been created by owner / designer Sylvia on the premises, giving a personal touch to the experience as well as ensuring a correct fit for customers.

Mockingbird Sing
Mockingbird Sing showcases the work of a range of Melbourne based designers including Elise Caarels and Nancybird. It also stocks the Australian labels Fleur Wood and Body, and international labels including Pepe Jeans. Mockingbird Sing also sells children’s wear, stationary and desirable gifts.

Studio Rapp
Studio Rapp features the work of German artist and painter Katharina Rapp, who has built up a following for her original oil paintings and range of art cards. Here at Studio Rapp you have the choice of a huge range of Rapp art and images – including paintings, signed prints (framed or unframed), a full choice of art cards and newly released range of stylish yet funky range of home wares and textile objects.

Rike Design
Originally a stylist and costume designer in the European theatre and fashion industry, Ulrike Barbara von Radichevich, the proprietor of Rike-Design, applies her expertise to the retail sector bringing together the latest designer creations sourced from the most vibrant markets in Europe, Asia and Australia.

Castlemaine Fashion Central is located at  4 Templeton St, Castlemaine.
Opening hours are 10am to 5pm, Thursday to Sunday.
