The Overland ready to roll

The Overland

Passengers travelling between Melbourne and Adelaide can enjoy spectacular scenery as they travel in relaxed comfort on Australia’s longest running interstate passenger train, The Overland, which has recently undergone a $4 million upgrade of its carriages.

The refurbishment includes new seating with generous leg room, modern relaxing carriage interior, updated amenities and a stylish café carriage.

The service is also greater value than ever before, with Great Southern Railway offering an introductory $99 return fare between Melbourne and Adelaide, valid for travel until 31 December 2007 for bookings made by 30 June 2007.

Two levels of service are available: Red Service and Red Premium Service. The Red Service seating has reclining seats that swivel around so passengers can face each other for a chat or a drink. The seats are similar to domestic business class with 49cm legroom between seats. Red Premium Service has even more space with 67cm legroom between seats.

The Overland departs Adelaide every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.25am, travelling through Murray Bridge, Bordertown, Nhill, Dimboola, Horsham, Ararat and Geelong, arriving in Melbourne at 6.40pm. The return service departs Melbourne every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 7.35am arriving in Adelaide at 6.10pm on Tuesday and Saturday and 7.15pm on Thursdays.
