Snapshots of Bendigo
New small group tours of Bendigo and surrounds let visitors immerse themselves in the historic Goldrush city's fascinating history, culture and cuisine. Snapshots of Bendigo's one-hour and half-day tours cover five different themes and are hosted by local Rosemary Lanigan.
The City Sights daily one-hour minibus tour travels past grand old buildings that reflect the wealth of the early gold mining days, to old Chinatown, the arts precinct and the locations of some of the richest gold finds. Prices - $20 per adult, $15 per child.
Canvas and Clay is a half-day tour to the Bendigo Art Gallery and Bendigo Pottery, where an optional half-hour wheel-throwing lesson can be included. A local artist joins Rosemary for this tour, to help explain the various artworks on display. Prices - $55 per adult, $44 per child.
The Above and Below tour explores the Victoria Hill Diggings and Central Deborah Gold Mine, accompanied by local historian Ray Wallace, who has written many books on the history of the Goldfields. Prices - $79 per adult, $63 per child.
Asian Flavours lets visitors sample both the visual and culinary heritage of Bendigo's Chinese community with visits to the Golden Dragon Museum & Gardens, an 1860s Joss House, the oldest Chinese cemetery in Australia and a delicious meal at one of the city's Chinese restaurants. Prices - $56 per adult, $45 per child.
The Grape Route tours three small family-run vineyards where visitors can sample local wines and and meet the winemakers. Price $95 per adult.
All tours depart from the Bendigo Visitor Information Centre and take a maximum of 10 people.
