Melbourne wins new arts events for 2008
Melbourne has secured two fantastic new events for 2008 which are sure to be a drawcard for visitors.
The new blockbuster exhibition Art Deco 1910–1939 will come to the National Gallery of Victoria in 2008 as part of the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series.
The exhibition comes from London's famed Victoria and Albert Museum and will include more than 150 major works across all fields of Art Deco, including painting, jewellery, fashion, film, architecture, photography, cars and furniture.
Some of the highlights of the show will include precious Deco gems from Cartier, pristine vintage vehicles by Mercedes-Benz and Bentley; and exquisite fashion by Chanel.
The exhibition will open on 27 June 2008 and run until 5 October 2008.
In a major theatrical coup for Melbourne, the city has also secured the Australian premiere of the worldwide musical phenomenon Wicked, set to open at the Regent Theatre in July 2008.
The Tony Award-winning prequel to the Wizard of Oz, Wicked follows the story of childhood friends who grow up to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.
