Wangaratta festival draws big names in jazz

Wangaratta Festival of Jazz

Victoria's High Country will be in the spotlight when top international and local musicians (including John Scofield, Joe Lovano and Duke Robillard) descend on Wangaratta for the 2008 Wangaratta Festival of Jazz from 31 October to 3 November.

Huge crowds are expected at the festival which will also feature appearances by high profile Australian performers Paul Grabowsky, James Muller, Joe Chindamo, Mike Nock, Michelle Nicole, Bernie McGann, Paul Williamson, and Ted Vining.

Wangaratta’s iconic pubs, concert halls, cathedral and wineries will play host to a variety of great music events spanning a range jazz and blues styles, from very traditional to very contemporary.

Wangaratta Festival of Jazz was originally conceived in 1989 by a group of local business people who wanted to establish a significant event for their town and region. An annual event since 1990, the festival is one of Australia’s biggest regional events, and has won the Victorian Tourism Award for Regional events three times.

In addition to a great line-up of music, the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz offers visitors the chance to enjoy the quality wines and gourmet foods for which the surrounding region is renowned, whether at street stalls in town over the weekend, or meals at venues like Brown Brothers Epicurean Centre or the Wangaratta Gateway.

Visitors interesting in doing a day trip to the festival can book a ride with AAT Kings who are offering return bus trips to and from Melbourne on Saturday 1 November and one on Sunday 2 November; bookings on 1800 803 944 (freecall).
