Montalto has continued to evolve and grow since opening five years ago. The Mitchell family, who own and operate the business, have a passion for sharing the beauty and bounty of their estate and are dedicated to improving all aspects of the business, from vineyard management through to estate grown produce, dining options, and the general visitor experience.
Montalto offers wine with a sense of place, ensuring that wine produced is the best possible expression of its origin. This philosophy has brought great acclaimed with the 2008 Halliday Wine Companion awarding Montalto a five star rating, and scores of 96/100 and 95/100 for the Montalto Chardonnay and Pinot Noir respectively.
The beautiful Montalto buildings recently received the Award for Architectural Excellence in the South East (Commercial/Industrial), and have seen some additions in the past 12months. Montalto has added a beautiful new private dining room with panoramic views and glass opening partitions to create a space for celebrations and a dedicated bar area where guests can enjoy a pre- or post-dinner drink in front of the new double-sided, cosy fireplace.
A second cellar door has been recently created with views across the vineyard. It offers a space for small, private tasting groups to enjoy a special experience, and offers meals matched to the estate’s wine for when the Piazza Café is closed.
The Mitchells recently announced a significant increase in the value of their annual Montalto Sculpture Prize from $10,000 to $20,000, to reflect their respect and admiration for all contributing artists, and the importance of the prize to the family.
