Clunes: A booktown for booklovers
The historic township of Clunes is preparing to transform itself into a European styled booktown on the 2 and 3 May as the Back to Booktown event returns to the autumn calendar.
As 60 visiting booksellers set up shop, the town’s heritage buildings will burst with the immeasurable collection of rare, antiquarian and second-hand books – the largest ever gathered in one place in Victoria.
Over the weekend Frank Moorhouse will join fellow award winning writers Eva Hornung (Sallis), Julienne van Loon and Mathew Condon in panel sessions hosted by Nigel Krauth.
The CFA has organised book drives throughout the Ballarat and Bendigo regions, with a prized haul of “nothing over $5” donated books to also be on sale at the event. All proceeds are going to the participating brigades to help with much needed fund raising.
While exploring the book-lovers oasis, take advantage of the fine wine, delicious food, live music, demonstration of children’s book illustrations and traditional Punch and Judy show that will add value to the fun and quirky event.
